At the ongoing CES 2023 expo, new products are being announced every day. Tech giant Google also revealed a new software magic that brings Spotify Connect support to Android 13’s media switcher. This feature is similar to what YouTube Music and YouTube users could already do with the Android 13 media switcher.

Basically, users will be able to conveniently switch music from their phone or tablet to their Spotify Connect-compatible devices, all through Android 13’s audio output switcher. Google noted how selecting and switching devices to play music can be time-consuming, and that is what Google has tried to address for Spotify users.

Originally, all you could do was switch the audio output between Bluetooth-connected devices. Last month, support for Chromecast devices arrived, which landed first for YouTube Music, and Google also mentioned its availability for the main YouTube app. Google is developing a new way to make the audio content move with you with the ‘Cross Device SDK,’ taking a step forward in advancing media entertainment.

Thanks to this, the podcast that you started listening to in your car, can be continued on your phone and headphones and finished off on your TV at home. Google explained that users will receive “media notifications” asking them whether they would like to transfer the audio content over to a nearby device as they start moving and confirm the action with just a tap. Google is actively working with YouTube Music and Spotify on this feature but did not provide a timeframe for its availability.
