Angela Bassett Expresses Her Disappointment Over Losing Oscar 2023 After A Year

0 13

“Black Panther” star Angela Bassett’s reaction over losing Oscar 2023 went viral on social media. The actress lost the Oscar last year for best supporting actress, which was won by Jamie Lee Curtis. In the latest episode of OWN Spotlight she recalled the incident and expressed her grief. Angela was nominated at the 95th Academy Award for her role of Queen Ramonda from the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.

The 65-year-old shared dismay, saying, “I was gobsmacked. It was—of course—a supreme disappointment, and disappointment is human.” But anyhow, the “Waiting To Exhale” star managed to keep calm and didn’t show her inner emotion on face when Jamie went on stage to receive her honor. “That was my intention, to handle it very well. Yes, I was disappointed and I handled it like a human being”, she added.

Being a mother of 18-year-old twins, she felt it was her responsibility to handle such situations with grace. She mentioned, “There are going to be these moments of disappointment that you’ll experience, but how do you handle yourself in the midst of them? We’re going to smile, we’re going to be gracious, we’re going to be kind, we’re going to party anyway.”

Oscar’s nomination 2023 for Queen Ramonda came much later after her first Oscar nomination for the role of Tina Turner in the biopic “What’s Love Got to Do with It”. But even after not receiving the honor of an Academy Award, she loves what she does. Expressing herself at Governors Award 2024, she said, “I do this work because I find it meaningful, and I hope in some way that it makes a difference and has an impact. To be recognized in this way for what I love doing is truly wonderful, and I am beyond grateful.”
