Anthony Mackie Is Inheriting More Than Just a Shield in ‘Captain America: New World Order’

It is now common knowledge that while Anthony Mackie’s Falcon is now the new Captain America of the MCU, replacing Chris Evans, he will not be getting any of the superhuman strength the former possessed and will be relying on his suit as well as exceptional fighting skills. But he is getting the shield and the title. And apparently, those are not the only things that have been handed down to the actor from their former owner.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Mackie talked at length about Captain America: New World Order, which would mark his first MCU appearance as the superhero with the shield and preparations for the same has been going on at full steam. And evidently, the efforts involved in making Sam the next best Captain America also involve considerable thought being given to how his ass looks in his star-spangled uniform.
“I’ve had about four costume fittings and the round brown is looking delicious in the spandex baby. That’s all I’m gonna say. Yo Horowitz, that’s all I’m gonna say. You know what I’m talking about. The round brown is going to make you as happy as peanut butter and jelly on a summer day baby. You know what I’m talking about. Mmm mmm… I’m talking about straight solo shots, like as I go running by, the camera’s going to be here [gestures down]. You know what I mean… It’s not about diameter, it’s about radius.”
Admiration of Steve Rogers’ posterior has been a running gag in the MCU, which reached supreme levels when Cap knocked his past self on his ass in Avengers: Endgame and stuck around to say the holy truth everyone had been swearing by — that he indeed holds the coveted title of “America’s Ass.”
The line has not tapered off in the wake of Steve bowing out of a life of fighting superpowered battles. Just recently, Jennifer Walters was heard lamenting about every living soul’s favorite part about the heroic Captain America in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Well, we might never get a chance to see Evans back on our screens, living up to his rather popular nickname. But based on how Mackie has described the end result, looks like someone is well-prepared and on his way to being “America’s Ass” version 2.0.
