Apex Legends Season 20 is about to begin on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Titled Breakout, the new Apex Legends season has a February 13 release date and a 6pm GMT UK launch time on consoles and PC. Celebrating the game’s anniversary, Season 20 will introduce new gameplay features, upgrades, Battle Pass rewards and lots more. Needless to say, it will also launch alongside a big new update, which, according to the patch notes, adds a 120Hz performance mode to Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

Arguably the biggest game-changer is the Legends Upgrade system, which is a new in-game progression system that restarts with each match.

Respawn explains more: “Introducing the Legend Upgrade system – an in-match progression system that deepens the Apex Legends Battle Royale experience by allowing you to tailor your Legend to your playstyle.

“Earning EVO will now Level-Up your Legend over the course of the game, improving your armour tier and unlocking unique upgrade selections at Levels 2 and 3. Choose wisely, as your decision can impact your whole squad’s strategy.”

Ranked is also getting a big upgrade, as Respawn shifts the level requirement back down to 20, all the while making the scoring system more transparent.

Fans will also be pleased to hear that Legends will be available to unlock over the course of the season, including Fuse, Seer, Rampart, Mad Maggie, Loba, and Valkyrie.

Speaking of unlockable Legends, players will be able to gift their friends a selection of free items themed around the characters every two weeks.

Needless to say, there’s also a brand new Battle Pass to accompany the season, alongside a host of rewards.

Other new features include the addition of the Straight Shot LTM, where ten squads drop into predetermined POIs next to fully-kitted guns and enemy squads.

Developer Respawn is also keen to make the matches faster, as well as matchmaking queues shorter.
