iOS 17 and iPadOS 17: supposed list of eligible (and ineligible) devices

According to a new report by MacRumors, Apple might provide the latest iOS 17 update to two generations of iPhones which received the iOS 16 update. This necessarily means that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X will not make it to the list and won’t receive the latest update. This also means that the devices launched after the said iPhones will be eligible for the iOS 17 update. Here’s the list of the potentially eligible iPhones:

  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro series
  • iPhone 12 series
  • iPhone 12 Pro series
  • iPhone 13 series
  • iPhone 13 Pro series
  • iPhone 14 series
  • iPhone 14 Pro series

As for the iPads, a few iPad models won’t receive the upcoming iPadOS 17 update, as per the report. If you are using the first-generation iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch, or the iPad (fifth generation), chances are that your device won’t be receiving the latest iPadOS 17 update.

The report states that Apple will offer some “nice to have” iOS features with the upcoming update, which more or less denies the previous rumours, which claimed that the update will be a mere incremental update and will focus primarily on stability and efficiency. It remains to be seen whether the new report actually is true or not, but chances of these devices missing out on the upcoming update seem to be highly likely.
