August Update Rolling Out To The Galaxy Z Fold 3

0 36

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the newest Samsung smartphone to receive the August 2022 Android security patch. The foldable is currently picking up the latest security update in Europe. A global rollout should follow in the coming days.

The August SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the European version of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which bears the model number SM-F926B, is rolling out with firmware version F926BXXU1CVG8. The OTA (over the air) package weighs in at 437.62MB. While that’s a pretty big download size, there’s not much to look forward to in terms of user-facing changes.

According to the official changelog supplied by Samsung, the foldable is picking up the usual performance optimizations with this update. Additionally, some first-party Samsung apps such as Galaxy Wearable, Samsung Health, Samsung Internet, SmartThings, Samsung Members, and Smart Switch may also be updated to the latest version.

As for the content of the SMR, Samsung recently revealed that this month’s security update patches more than 60 vulnerabilities. These include over three dozen Android OS vulnerabilities and 31 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. While the former issues affect the entire Android ecosystem, the latter only concern the Korean firm’s products. SVEs patched this month affected components like NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Samsung DeX, App Lock, and Knox VPN.

While there may not be any new features here, you’d want to install the latest update on your Galaxy Z Fold 3 as early as possible to keep it protected from dozens of vulnerabilities. A major feature update should also be just around the corner, though. No, we are not talking about Android 13-based One UI 5.0. There’s still some time left for it. But the Android 12-based One UI 4.1.1 is almost here.

The latest version of Samsung’s custom software will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 next week. It should bring a bunch of new features to its foldables. The likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will likely receive it a few weeks down the line. We will keep you posted.

Meanwhile, if you’re using either of Samsung’s 2021 foldables and have yet to pick up the August security update, you should soon. As usual, the update will roll out to your phone over the air. You will be notified about it. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app, under the Software update section.
