As you may know, Samsung uses Google to power most new Galaxy S24 AI tools in most markets. Not so in China, where many Google services are banned or limited. To work around these issues, Samsung partnered with China’s Baidu to power the Galaxy S24’s AI features in the country. And according to early Galaxy S24 customers, these Baidu-powered AI tools are inferior to Google’s.

The Galaxy S24 series with Baidu AI went on sale in China on January 25. Shortly after release, customers in China who have had the chance to try both the Chinese versions powered by Baidu AI and the international Galaxy S24 models powered by Google AI took to online forums to share their experience (via Yahoo!).

So far, things don’t look as bright for the Galaxy S24 in China. Early Galaxy S24 adopters say the Baidu AI isn’t as clever or powerful as Google’s.

One user explained that the Galaxy S24’s Circle to Search feature doesn’t show nearly as many results when powered by Baidu instead of Google.

More so, one user explained that the Circle to Search feature powered by Baidu mistakes Samsung phones for other brands.

Analysts believe Baidu AI won’t help Galaxy S24 sales in China

Because the Galaxy S24 AI experience in China is inferior to the rest of the world, market watchers believe that Samsung’s new AI features won’t make that much of a difference to the company’s bottom line in the Chinese market.

Even if these new and clever AI tools might boost Galaxy S24 sales in most countries, the same might not be true for China, where Baidu’s AI limitations failed to generate excitement and hype around the latest Samsung flagship phones.

Baidu, on the other hand, strongly believes in its Ernie AI. According to the company, Ernie version 4.0 — which was released in October — is just as powerful and intelligent as ChatGPT GPT-4.

Whether or not that’s true is another story. But as far as Google’s Gemini and Baidu’s Ernie models for the Galaxy S24 series are concerned, Gemini appears to have won the hearts of many Samsung customers, while Ernie did not.
