Euphoria renewed for a third and fourth season this year. However, months after denying the rumoured conflict between her and Sam Levinson, Barbie Ferreira officially announced she is leaving Euphoria ahead of the upcoming fourth season. The actress starred as Kat Hernandez since the show debuted on HBO in 2019, and she was expected to return for the renewed third season.

However, Ferreira took to her Instagram story and shared fan art of her character from co-star Hunter Schaffer. Along with the fan art, the actress penned an emotional note revealing that she was leaving the series. Ferreira began her note by writing, “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye.”

Barbie continues, “I hope many of you could see yourself in her as I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.” Euphoria actress concluded the note by saying, “I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez.”

Ferreira only had a two-episode arc in Divorce and two short films to her credit before being cast as Kat in Euphoria. Ferreira’s character quickly became a fan favourite after the first season, though fans noticed her screen presence was significantly lowered in the second season, which wrapped up in late February. Before the end of season 2, a report of Ferreira clashing with Euphoria creator surfaced. The report claimed that the tension got so bad that Ferreira walked off the set and that this friction led to her diminished screen time.

However, the actress continuously denied the rumours. When asked about her diminished screen time, Ferreira said in an interview, ‘There’s a huge cast. So, we’ll see everyone. Everyone gets their time.’ After Season 2 ended, she addressed the rumours by stating, ‘I’ve seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue and some of its kind of like mundane little things.’

Euphoria was renewed for a third season back in early February, though no production or release schedule was given. The second season of Euphoria earned a whopping 16 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for last year’s winner, Zendaya. The show also earned nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Sydney Sweeney), Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Martha Kelly) and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Colman Domingo).
