Bengals-Bills Bets Voided After Damar Hamlin Collapse Postpones Game Indefinitely

Sports-betting operators said Tuesday that wagers on Monday night’s high-profile football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills will be voided and customer betting accounts will be refunded.
The announcements came after the National Football League said Tuesday the postponed game won’t resume this week. The highly anticipated matchup in Cincinnati was stopped after Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after a tackle.
“Monday Night Football” is a popular game for making bets as the only NFL game of the night following a busy lineup of Sunday matchups. The Bengals-Bills game in particular had been highly anticipated, featuring two Super Bowl favorites competing for a top playoff seed.
Companies including FanDuel Group,
Caesars Entertainment Inc.,
CZR 3.31%
DraftKings Inc.
and BetMGM announced that all pending wagers on the game would be voided. The betting operators said they were waiting for an official NFL ruling on the status of the game before making their decisions on how to proceed.
A spokesman for FanDuel said the company’s rules and various state regulations mandate that bets be voided because the game won’t be resumed within the week.
The companies didn’t disclose the total value of the bets being refunded.
BetMGM said Tuesday that customers would receive refunds back into their accounts—including refunds of cash wagers, free bets and site credits—within 24 hours. BetMGM is a partnership between
MGM Resorts International
and
Entain
PLC.
Mr. Hamlin received CPR after collapsing on the field and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. He remained in critical condition Tuesday, according to the Bills.
The NFL said it hadn’t made a decision on “the possible resumption of the game at a later date.”
