Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk has some disappointing news for those expecting him to appear in the next Marvel Studios project. According to the actor, he has no plans to star in the MCU, believing that “he’s not built for it.”

The actor found success starring in big title dramas such as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Not to mention, has done film work as an actor, writer, and producer in projects like Lucky Hank and Nobody. So if there is someone that Marvel Studios has eyes on to star in another project, it would be him. Unfortunately, Odenkirk thinks otherwise.

In an interview with The Independent about a potential future with Marvel Studios and the MCU, Odenkirk replied by saying that he “isn’t built for that world” and would rather play characters who are grounded and relatable to real life. He doesn’t see himself playing someone big or powerful.

“I always like to keep things grounded, relatable and smaller. I don’t think I’m built for that world. I’m built for characters that make you feel like that guy could live next door.”

Odenkirk supported his statement by talking about his role in the 2021 film Nobody. The actor shared that he “cared” more about his role as Hutch Mansell due to his views on violence and how he’s changed throughout. He also joked about how people could view the 2021 film as him sharing his own life story rather than just an action film.

“[Hutch] is still a family man, but his relationship to violence is different. He’s changed, but he’s still got a long way to go to find real balance in how he’s living his life. I care about this more than you could imagine. You’d think it’s the personal story of my life, and not an action-genre movie.”

Aside from Odenkirk, a handful of actors and actresses revealed their disinterest in entering the MCU due to a variety of reasons. Tetris star Taron Egerton believes that “he’s too old” for the MCU, despite rumors that he will become the next Wolverine. And Fast and Furious‘ Jason Statham has shown heavy disinterest in entering the MCU, and claimed that anyone could do it.

Odenkirk has found ongoing success thanks to his work as Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. He received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022 and got to work with Steven Spielberg in The Post. While he doesn’t see himself in a superhero suit, at least he got the chance to star in the 2018 animated film The Incredibles 2.
