Recently the “Desi Boyz” fame actress Chitrangada Singh picked up a BMW X5 luxury SUV. Previously the actress used to commute around the city in a White BMW X3 the younger sibling of her X5 but since then she has upgraded her ride.

The model which she currently uses is from the older generation and was launched back in 2014 in India. This particular model was huge refresh from the prior generation which was quite popular in the country. The 2014 X5 featured an all-new exterior design and boasted a slew of changes such as larger headlamps, a new grille, new front bumper, a revised rear end and curvier lines.

Dimensionally the third generation X5 SUV was quite larger than the previous gen model. To be precise it was 29 mm longer and 5 mm wider. The model was launched as a seven-seater in the country to compete with the likes of the other German luxury rivals Mercedes Benz GL Class and the Audi Q7. Over the years the car gained a ton popularity and became the choice of a ton of celebrites and business tycoons in India.

The third generation BMW X5 received an updated interior with wood inlays on the door panels and dashboard. Standard equipment includes a new 10.5-inch freestanding iDrive infotainment system with higher resolution. Other amenities include a Harman Kardon audio system, cruise control, four-zone temperature control, Bluetooth connectivity, and a panoramic sun roof.

Furthermore a wide range of safety features were available from BMW, including cornering brake control, hill hold control, hill descent control, electronic stability programme, ABS, EBD, and a full set of driver and passenger airbags for frontal and side protection.

A 3 litre, inline, 6-cylinder diesel engine with dual turbochargers powers the vehicle the Bollywood star drives. Peak power and torque from the engine are 255 Bhp and 560 Nm, respectively. The X5 comes standard with all-wheel drive, and an 8-speed automatic transmission takes care of the torque transmission requirements. The BMW X5’s engine and transmission provide outstanding acceleration (0-100 Kph in under 6.9 seconds), enabling the SUV to outperform the majority of vehicles this side of sports cars. Electronic limits prevent speeds beyond 240 Kph.

Other notable owner of the BMW X5 SUV in India was the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster used to own Lagoon Beach Blue BMW X5M which was is the only one in the country. He bought the SUV back in 2002. After he sold the car, the same X5 recently once again came to the market for purchase from Mumbai. The seller stated that this is the only BMW M Sport with a V8 naturally-aspirated engine.

The particular 2002 BMW X5M owned by Sachin was powered by a 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine that generated a whopping maximum power of 347 Bhp and peak torque of 480 Nm. The SUV had a manual transmission. The 2002 BMW X6M could do 0-100 km/h in just 7 seconds. The top-speed was restricted at 249 km/h for safety reasons.
