Camouflaged 2023 Tata Safari facelift with ADAS spied testing in India ahead of launch

The country’s third largest automaker Tata Motors has been posting steadily increasing sales numbers and at one point this year, it also dethroned Hyundai from the second spot as well. Its recent launches – the Tiago EV, Punch, Harrier, and Safari have all posted great sales figures in recent months. Although despite good numbers it has been reported that the company is working on the facelift models of the Harrier and Safari to further boost their sales. Recently, a fully camouflaged test mule of the company’s flagship SUV Safari was spotted testing on the country roads.

Reportedly, Tata will be launching the facelifted 2023 Safari in the second quarter of next year. It is anticipated that the company will be providing the forthcoming Safari with Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which will help it compete with the XUV700 which has been featuring this safety tech since its launch. The recently spotted vehicle also had a small circular camouflage covering what is most likely the radar for the ADAS systems.

Apart from this highlight there was not a whole lot of difference in the overall design of the spotted test mule and it mostly will be the same as the outgoing model. According to reports, Tata could maybe tweak the interior of the SUV and give it some new color themes and upholstery options. It is believed that Tata could also give the car a red interior like it will be offering in the Harrier. Recently a Harrier with a complete red interior was also spotted testing.

Earlier in November, Tata Motors added a few new features to the Harrier and Safari SUVs. The company also marginally hiked the prices of both SUVs. The Harriers’ price was bumped up by Rs. 31,000 and Rs. 20,000 for the Safari. Following the update the Harrier got USB Type-C ports in the front row across all variants.

Additionally, the ESP safety feature of the Harrier also got some enhancements such as panic brake alert, post-impact brake activation and driver doze-off alert on the XZS trim. The XZ+ trims saw the biggest bump up in features with a wireless charger, usage analytics, monthly health report, drive analytics, auto and manual DTC check, electronic parking brake and disc brakes on all four wheels. Meanwhile, the Gold Edition of the Safari got iRA features while the XZ+ variants got comfort head restraints as standard.

Both SUVs’ mechanical specifications remain unchanged. Both SUVs are powered by Fiat’s reliable 2 liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. 350 Nm of maximum torque and 168 Bhp of maximum power are produced by the Multijet diesel engine. With this engine, the Safari and Harrier both have two transmission options: a Hyundai 6 speed torque converter automatic and a 6 speed manual. The front wheels of the SUVs are driven by both transmissions; all-wheel drive is not available, not even as an add-on. Reportedly Tata Motors is also developing a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine for the SUV siblings as well.
