Caroline Polachek and Weyes Blood Share ‘Butterfly Net’ Collaboration

The ever-expanding universe of Caroline Polachek‘s Desire, I Want To Turn Into You still hasn’t exhausted its resources. The singer continues mining its contents for fresh material, this time elevating “Butterfly Net” with an exalting appearance from Weyes Blood.

The “Butterfly Net” remix will appear on the forthcoming release Desire, I Want To Turn Into You: Everasking Edition, out Feb. 14. A Valentine’s Day gift to her fans, the record will also include Polachek’s recent single “Dang,” which arrived in October.

Weyes is the latest collaborator to assist in transforming Desire, I Want To Turn Into You. Last year, Polachek recruited Charli XCX and The 1975’s George Daniel for a revamped version of “Welcome To My Island.” The original album featured collaborations with Grimes and Dido.

In a review of Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, Rolling Stone wrote: “’Butterfly Net’ is a glowing ballad where the slow-burn instrumentation, including a drowsily played vintage organ, allows Polachek’s impassioned vocal to take center stage; a children’s choir comes in at the end, but only for a minute, dashing any hope for catharsis in a way that mirrors the frustration of the song’s central metaphor of a butterfly net “trying to catch your light.”

“Butterfly Net (featuring Weyes Blood)” comes on the heels of Polachek’s appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where her album was nominated for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Desire, I Want To Turn Into You lost out to Victoria Monét’s Jaguar II, but she told Rolling Stone on the red carpet that it nonetheless felt special to be recognized for the sound of her album.

“It’s actually a very meaningful [nomination] for me, because I did put so much love and so much time into the engineering and the editing behind the whole album,” said Polachek, who has previously been nominated as a producer. “And the devil really is in the details when it comes to the music.”
