Carrier-locked Samsung Galaxy S20 gets December 2023 security update in USA

Samsung is busy rolling out the Android 14 update to its phones and tablets, but the Galaxy S20 doesn’t qualify for that update. Instead, the Galaxy S20 series is getting a new software update that brings those devices up to speed with the December 2023 patch. The update is currently available in the US for carrier-locked versions.

Galaxy S20 gets December 2023 security update

The last security update of the year, the December 2023 security update, is now available for the carrier-locked units in the Galaxy S20 series in the US. The update comes with firmware version G98xUSQS8HWK1 and has a relatively smaller download size. The December 2023 security patch fixes around 75 vulnerabilities discovered in the previous software version.

If you have a Galaxy S20 series device in the US, which is a carrier-locked unit, you can now check for the newest security update. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S20 series in early 2020 with Android 10 onboard. The devices in the lineup received the Android 11 update in late 2020, the Android 12 update in late 2021, and the Android 13 update in late 2022. They won’t get the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update.
