Channing Tatum has others booted from London restaurant: report

0 63

Channing Tatum seems to be having a tough time in London making the third movie in his  “Magic Mike” male-stripper series, with a new report Monday saying that he “threw a tantrum” in a posh restaurant, accused other diners of taking his photo and had them ejected from the eatery.

Tatum was eating at the restaurant Louie in Covent Garden when he noticed a group of six other people enjoying a meal and taking photos of one another, Page Six said, citing a report in the U.K. tabloid The Sun.

“Channing thought they were taking pictures of him and furiously stuck his middle finger up at them,” the source said. “The next thing, the maitre d’ was telling them to leave.”

Reps for the seemingly amiable star of “The Lost City” did not immediately return a request for comment from Page Six. A manager for the restaurant declined to comment.

This reported clash follows another report from Page Six last month, saying that Thandiwe Newton, Tatum’s co-star in “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” had suffered some kind of mental breakdown. She had to leave the film to fly back to Los Angeles to seek treatment, the report said.

The Sun also made the claim that Newton’s departure followed an “unimaginably vicious” fight between her and Tatum. A crew member told The Sun that the fight had to do with “the debacle at the Oscars,” seemingly referring to Will Smith’s onstage slap of Chris Rock.

The source also told The Sun there was “a tense exchange of words” that suddenly escalated, prompting Tatum to jump into his car and “disappear.” The Sun didn’t specify whether Newton or Tatum took particular sides in the Smith/Rock altercation.

Unnamed crew members also told The Sun that Newton had been “very demanding” on the set. “Everyone on set found her challenging to work with,” a crew member said. “She’s an absolute diva.”

Insiders insisted to Page Six that Newton’s departure from “Magic Mike” had less to do with any heated exchange between her and Tatum and more to do with her personal family matters.

“There is a lot going on in her personal life, she and her husband have separated,” the source added. “She seemed so stressed, she even brought her two pet rabbits to her hotel for emotional support.”

Newton’s husband is English writer, director, and producer Ol Parker. Together, they share two daughters, 22 and 18, and an 8-year-old son.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson released a statement to Variety, confirming that Newton’s exit is at least related to private, “family matters.”

“Thandiwe Newton has made the difficult decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros. Pictures’ ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ to deal with family matters,” the statement said.

Salma Hayek has since taken over Newton’s role in “Magic MIke’s Last Dance.” Little is known about the third film in the “Magic Mike” series, other than that it will be directed by Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the first “Magic Mike” movie in 2012.

Tatum told the New York Times in March that the third film would be “pretty bonkers” but that it would include “a lot of dancing” and tell a “reverse-role ‘Pretty Woman’ story.”

“We’re kind of swinging for the fences — there never needs to be another stripper movie after this one,” Tatum said.
