Chennai Police Take Delivery of 25 Hyundai Creta SUVs For Patrolling Duties
The Hyundai Creta, Toyota Innova Crysta, and Mahindra Bolero are three of the most popular vehicles currently on sale in India. These models are the top-selling vehicles in their segments, and for good reasons. Recently, taking note of their popularity in the country, the state of Tamil Nadu has inducted a number of these three models into their police fleet. The flagging-off ceremony for the Chennai Police Department’s new Cretas, Innova Crystas, and Boleros took place with the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and a video of it has been shared online.

The video of the Tamil Nadu Police Department receiving their new police cars has been shared on YouTube by Greater Chennai Police on their official channel. It starts off with a white Hyundai Creta base E variant, customized with a matte black wrap on the side profile. It had a Chennai Greater Police livery and a 100-number to dial for emergencies. Apart from it, the car was also equipped with police strobe lights on top. There were a few more of this type of Creta police cars.
Following this, the video then shows another type of Creta police cars. These cars also had a police livery but had a different design with red and blue colors and logos and text written in Tamil. These cars were also equipped with strobe lights, and they also had additional foot steps. Additionally, there were two more types of Creta, one with a different red and blue livery and one which was finished in standard white color. In total, the Chennai Police Department has taken delivery of 25 new Hyundai Cretas.
It has to be noted that these are the previous generation Creta models and not the facelifted model. Also, it can be noted that the Chennai Police Department has chosen the base E variant of the Creta for their fleet. The Creta E variant comes equipped with features such as a manual air conditioning system, halogen projector headlights, and 16-inch steel wheels. The base variant of this generation, like the outgoing model, came with two engine options: 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. Both made around 113-114 bhp of power and 143 Nm and 250 Nm of torque, respectively.

Apart from the 25 Hyundai Creta SUVs, the Chennai Greater Police have also taken delivery of 8 Toyota Innova Crysta MPVs and 20 Mahindra Bolero SUVs. In total, the government of Tamil Nadu, led by MK Stalin, has spent a total of Rs 65 crore for the induction of these new vehicles into the police department’s fleet. The police department will be using these vehicles to curtail crime, regulate traffic, and maintain law and order in the best possible way within the Greater Chennai Police limits and create a safe environment for the public, especially women, children, and senior citizens, stated the department.
