Chips Ahoy! MediaTek’s Flagship Dimensity 9200 | Fast Charge 134
It’s been the case for several years that most flagship Android smartphones run a Snapdragon chipset, such has been Qualcomm’s dominance.
We’ll be chatting about it and all things phones on the Fast Charge podcast today, 10 November 2022.
MediaTek has a thing or to two to say about that though. It launched the Dimensity 9200 this week in California, and it’s all but confirmed to appear in a premium Vivo phone by the end of the year.
The 4nm chip is powered by the latest Armv9 architecture and can support future-gen features like 240Hz displays and the Wi-Fi 7 standard.
Importantly with support for mmWave 5G, MediaTek is clearly trying to appeal more to the US market where mmWave frequencies are used far more than elsewhere in the world.
It’ll be interesting to watch which phones end up with the 9200 or Qualcomm’s widely expected Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.
We’ll also discuss the latest Huawei flagship phone, the Mate 50 Pro, which we have in for review. it ships without native support for Google Mobile Services or the Google Play Store, but Huawei says it has made strides with its own AppGallery and ways to download and use popular apps – is the Mate 50 Pro a viable smartphone for European buyers in 2022, especially ad £1,199?
Finally the team will chat about Honor, once a subsidiary of Huawei but now free to do what it wants (so it says). It’s just announced its Magic Vs folding phone, which will come to global markets including Europe.
Do we think it will be a decent rival device to Samsung’s Z Fold 4, or is it just more of the same?
You can watch the show live on the YouTube player above at 4pm GMT today, or watch the replay after that at any time.
