Chlöe Bailey Returns With New Single ‘FYS’

The single arrives just under a year after the R&B singer released her debut solo album In Pieces

In the year since Chlöe Bailey released her debut solo album In Pieces, she’s stitched herself back together after weathering complication external perceptions. On her latest single “FYS,” the R&B singer and songwriter is only focused on what’s beneath the surface.

“Money, cars and the diamonds/Don’t phase me, I been had it,” she sings on the record. “Fuck your status/I just, just wanna love you, baby.”

Chlöe announced “FYS” earlier this week via social media, sharing a short snippet and challenging her fans to guess what the acronym stands for. Some responses were hungry, with choreographer Fullout Cortland commenting on Instagram: “Fried Yellow Snapper.” Others were more spiritual, with a few users guessing variations of “Feed Your Soul” and “From Your Soul.”

Most were more in line with the direction Chlöe took: “Fuck Your Standards,” “Fuck You Saying,” and — the correct answer — “Fuck Your Status.” But more than anything, Chlöe fans are just happy to have her back. “Idc if it means fungus yam sauce,” one comment read. “DROP IT.”

“When I had a creative block for the album, that was because I was so caught up in having my eyes and ears on what I think people expect from me and caring too much. That’s when my creativity and artistry got suffocated and I wasn’t creating the way that I was meant to,” Chlöe told Rolling Stone last year. “I feel like we all have a gift and we’re all vessels of that gift. When I worry too much about outside opinions, or who can I please the most or who will I not please, that will defeat the whole purpose of what art is about. Not everybody’s supposed to like art. It’s all about perspective. And, you know, not everybody will see or hear the same thing the same.”
