It came as no surprise to anyone when Netflix recently announced its plans to produce Extraction 3, starring Chris Hemsworth. After all, the film was able to surpass its predecessor in terms of audience and critics’ reception, but there is another reason why Netflix may be confident to give a threequel the green light for production.

Over on Instagram, Hemsworth shared a photo of the top movies trending on the platform, with the first two spots occupied by the Extraction 2 and its predecessor. The actor thanked everyone for giving these duology the love they deserved, and seemed surprised they managed to top the charts. It’s not every day that a Netflix original and its sequel dominate the charts, so seeing this happen for Extraction is a huge deal.

As of writing, Extraction 2 has earned a critics score of 75 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, nearly 10 percent higher than the first. Meanwhile, fans have given it an average score of 89 percent, which is nearly 20 percent higher than its predecessor.

Months prior to Extraction 2‘s release, the Russo brothers talked about the chances of Extraction 3 and claimed that a franchise could open up if the sequel was to be a success. Based on what’s currently being shown through audience reception and Netflix’s trending charts, it will be interesting to see Marvel Alumni working together to create a film franchise based on the action thriller.
