Dan Levy Explores ‘Good Grief’ in New Trailer for Directorial Debut
Schitt’s Creek star also wrote and stars in drama about “friendship and loss and all the mess,” premiering on Netflix in January 2024
Dan Levy explores death and friendship in the new trailer for Good Grief, the Schitt’s Creek actor’s directorial debut.
Levy also wrote and stars in the drama alongside Himesh Patel and Ruth Negga, who play Levy’s friends who come to his aid following the unexpected death of his husband, played by Luke Evans.
“Good Grief is a cautionary tale about friendship and loss and all the mess that comes with it when the truth is something you’ve evaded for most of your life,” Levy said of his film to Tudum. “It’s funny, it’s bittersweet, it’s a project that’s helped me work through my own grief. And I hope it does the same for other people as well.”
After a year of mourning his loss, Levy’s Marc takes Negga’s Sophie and Patel’s Thomas on a luxurious trip to Paris as a thank-you. However, the trip “reveals some hard truths they each needed to face,” Netflix said in its synopsis.
Levy added, “There’s such joy in this movie, it has much more to do with life than death which is why the movie starts with a death but doesn’t end with one. It acts as a catalyst for someone to question who they are and how they got to where they were. And it also acts as a springboard for us to tell a really lovely story about friendship front and center. That is the romance in this film.”
Good Grief premieres January 5 on the streaming service. While Levy helmed episodes of Schitt’s Creek over its six-season run, the film marks his feature-length directorial debut.
