The global economic recovery following the pandemic has been slower than expected. Multiple challenges still exist and businesses are having to cope with them. The smartphone market in particular is impacted by growing inflation concerns.

Samsung is having to make the best of these challenging circumstances like everybody else. The company has done a good job of increasing its smartphone market in North America where inflation has become a serious problem.

North American smartphone market to continue facing challenges

The latest data from Canalys shows that North American smartphone shipments were up by 3.7% in Q1 2022 compared to the same period last year. Around 39 million units were shipped during this period compared to 37.6 million units the year before.

As you’d expect, Apple took the lion’s share by accounting for 51% of the market. It shipped 19.9 million units of its various iPhones. Samsung remains in second place and it shipped 10.5 million units in North America this past quarter. The company now accounts for a 27% share of the market, registering an annual growth of 1%.

Samsung’s new Galaxy S and Galaxy A series handsets have contributed to the company’s slight increase in market share. These great devices, offered across different price ranges, have enabled the company to provide more value to customers across the entire price spectrum.

The market situation in North America still remains challenging with inflation being the biggest concern. We may see heavy discounting and high trade-in values offered for existing devices to entice customers to purchase new devices.
