Destiny 2 Focus Activity gets scaling amidst Guardian Games Hunter dominance – Destructoid

Each year the Guardian Games returns to Destiny 2, Bungie takes on the arduous task of balancing the event. Despite the focus on population differences in this year’s Guardian Games All-Stars, the new Focus Activity feature is throwing a wrench into the gears.

As such, Bungie announced on X, formerly Twitter, that the Focus Activity is temporarily scaled in favor of Warlocks and Titans until a more permanent solution is reached.

Destiny 2 scales Focus Activity after Hunters dominate the Guardian Games

Focus Activities are new to Destiny 2‘s Guardian Games, highlighting one type of activity for a few hours. Participants are rewarded based on the overall performance of their Class, with the winning Class receiving a special winner’s package. While the regular rewards offer a few Medallions here and there, the winner’s package caps players out on all but the new and limited Diamond Medallions.

With dunking Medallions being the major goal throughout the Guardian Games, it didn’t take players long to see how valuable a winner’s package is. That ultimately led to players switching their Classes just to earn one. While Bungie’s data indicates that things were pretty competitive between Classes at the start of the first Focus Activity, the Hunter victory started a snowball effect.

Bungie notes that Hunter’s dominant position in the player population helped the Class gain footing. Once other players saw that Hunters would win the Focus Activity, they switched over to reap the rewards. This created landslide victories for Hunters in Focus Activities over the first few days of the Guardian Games and put a finger on the scale measuring the overall Medallion dunking for each Class. As Bungie notes, “It appears the Hunters’ lead hinges on them winning Focus Activities. Those earnings continue to help them hold the lead.”

The Focus Activity scaling should give Warlocks and Titans a fighting chance for the rest of the week. However, Bungie thinks there is a better solution. The studio said, “We’re giving a boost to Warlocks and Titans over the weekend based on previous class concurrency and will issue a more permanent fix early next week.”
