0 26

Disney+ will take the IMAX Enhanced experience to the next level by adding support for IMAX signature sound by DTS to select Marvel films this year. This collaboration aims to provide fans with a fully optimized IMAX-quality presentation by allowing them to experience high-fidelity audio in addition to the expanded aspect ratio (1.90:1) of select titles.

Enhance your streaming experience with DTS sound

Audio and surround sound specialist DTS (and its parent company Xperi) established the IMAX Enhanced label to ensure viewers get the best audio and video experience. According to Disney+, this signature sound by DTS “enables an elevated end-to-end experience, specially calibrated to provide fans at home with IMAX-quality picture and sound.”

Unlike the previous IMAX Enhanced format, viewers will need compatible equipment to enjoy the DTS experience. TVs from Sony and Hisense will support the IMAX signature sound at launch, as will certified AV receivers from Denon, Marantz, and JBL.

“We’re thrilled to bring audiences an even greater cinematic experience in the home and beyond as we roll out the next phase of IMAX Enhanced on Disney+. We can’t wait for fans to experience more of our cutting-edge, unparalleled sight and sound advancements across the entire IMAX Enhanced collection on Disney+, with more titles soon to come,” said Vikram Arumilli, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Streaming and Consumer Technology, IMAX Corporation.

Disney+ plans to increase the popularity of IMAX Enhanced

IMAX Enhanced has not yet gained the same level of recognition as other high-quality audio and video formats like Dolby Atmos or Dolby Vision. However, by offering exclusive access to properly calibrated audio and video experiences, Disney Plus hopes to increase the popularity of IMAX Enhanced.

One of the titles that will receive IMAX Enhanced support is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting February 1st and will offer fans the chance to experience the immersive qualities of IMAX at home while watching the movie.
