Don’t expect a major crease improvement on the Galaxy Z Fold 5

If you’re planning to get the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, make sure not to expect a major crease improvement. What do we mean by that? Well, it’ll be almost as noticeable as the one on the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 won’t bring major crease improvement, it seems

Considering that Samsung plans to make some hinge changes, we were expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s crease will be considerably less noticeable. A number of other OEMs managed to pull it off, so everyone expected something similar from Samsung.

Well, based on some info a well-known tipster released, that won’t happen. This information comes from Ice Universe, as he says that the crease will be only 15% less noticeable.

He did confirm that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will come with a different hinge, though. He mentioned a ‘waterdrop hinge’ style, which is what Chinese OEMs use too. The thing is, Samsung’s crease will be a lot more noticeable. Perhaps water and dust resistance has something to do with it, as the phone is expected to offer both? Either way, there you have it.

A number of Chinese OEMs did a great job minimizing crease exposure

OPPO did a great job with crease control on its Find N, Find N2, and Find N2 Flip phones. The same goes for Huawei with the Mate X3, and several other companies.

All in all, it doesn’t seem like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be much different than its predecessor. Ice Universe keeps on mentioning that in his tweets, and it seems to be true. If you expected a huge design jump, you may be disappointed.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will launch next month, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Samsung confirmed a July launch, which is a month sooner than the second ‘Unpacked’ event usually takes place.

Samsung will host its global press event in Seoul, Korea, this time around. A separate US and Canada launch event is rumored, but only as a secondary event, after the main, global one.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is tipped to fuel the Galaxy Z Fold 5, while the phone will once again be quite narrow when folded. If you’d like to know more about the device, check out our preview.
