The Grammy winner said the record’s 11 tracks are inspired by her own self-discovery and new outlook on life. The music include nods to ‘90s Britpop with the euphoric club-ready track Houdini (which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100) and the recently released single Training Season.

After an early listen, Rolling Stone called the album “pop bliss,” noting it is “uniquely and utterly Dua Lipa: confident dance pop full of witty Instagram-caption-ready one-liners.”

Lipa, who recently became the first female artist to have four songs each with over two billion streams on Spotify (One Kiss, Don’t Start Now, New Rules and Levitating), said the album title was inspired by a friend.

“A couple years ago, a friend introduced me to the term Radical Optimism. It’s a concept that resonated with me, and I became more curious as I started to play with it and weave it into my life,” the songstress shared in a statement.

“It struck me – the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm. At the same time, I found myself looking through the music history of psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop. It has always felt so confidently optimistic to me, and that honesty and attitude is a feeling I took into my recording sessions.”

During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Lipa, 28, revealed she “wrote 97 songs” for Radical Optimism, which will feature collaborations with Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Kevin Parker.

“I started writing for this album in 2021, and I just wanted to write my ideas down,” Lipa told the late-night host. “So, I went down to CVS, and I just bought a random notebook. Had I have known how important that book would’ve been, maybe I would’ve gotten a more fancy one.”

After showing off Kimmel’s studio audience the actual notebook, Lipa said, “It’s got every single song I’ve written for this album. I wrote 97 songs.”
