It looks like Elden Ring’s mysterious Shadow of the Erdtree DLC could launch sooner than expected. Despite being announced last February, little is known about Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Indeed, outside of a promotional image, developer FromSoftware hasn’t shared any information about the upcoming DLC. Fortunately, however, a new leak suggests the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is in the final stages of testing, which means a release date is imminent.
The Elden Ring paid DLC section on SteamDB was recently updated with something titled “SteamDB Unknown App 2778580”. This led to speculation that a Shadow of the Erdtree announcement would be coming soon.
The SteamDB listing has since been updated, with FromSoftware adding “qa-release”, “qa-debug”, “dev-release”, and “dev-debug” tags to the page.
The tags suggest that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is in the final stages of testing.
If this is indeed the case, then fans can expect an announcement soon, followed by a release date within the next few months.
A previous leak hinted at a February launch, although this seems unlikely based on comments made by FromSoftware.
It was recently revealed that video game peripheral manufacturer Thrustmaster is working on an Elden Ring controller, which would launch alongside the DLC in February.
Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao shot down the claims, however, confirming that the expansion wouldn’t be available until the next fiscal year.
Based on Kitao’s comments, the SteamDB listing and recent updates, there’s a good chance Shadow of the Erdtree could make its debut this April.
With the DLC announcement coming on February 28, 2023, perhaps we’ll get the release date announcement at the end of the month, to mark the one-year anniversary.
