Eric Adams Touts New York City by Citing Possibility of Terrorism

Eric Adams loves talking about how New York City is the greatest city in the world, a concrete jungle where dreams are made and there’s nothing you can’t do. The mayor pressed the point again on Sunday, arguing that the city is so full of possibility that its residents could be killed in a terrorist attack on any given day.

The strange bit of promotion came during an interview with Pix 11’s Dan Mannarino, not long after Adams simply replied “New York” when asked to describe 2023 in one word. “This is a place where every day you wake up and you could experience everything from a plane crashing into our trade center to a person who is celebrating a new business opening,” the mayor continued. “This is a very, very complicated city, and that’s why it’s the greatest city on the globe.”

Adams has had a rough end to his first full year as the mayor of America’s biggest city. News broke in November that the FBI raided the home of his chief fundraising as part of an investigation into potentially illegal donations, and that federal authorities later seized the mayor’s phone as part of the same corruption probe. A few weeks later, Adams was accused of sexual assault in 1993 in a lawsuit filed under New York’s new Adult Survivors Act. Adams has denied the allegations.

Adams hasn’t been very popular as a public servant, either, slashing the city funding for schools and libraries. A Quinnipiac University poll released earlier this month found that Adams has the lowest approval rating since the Quinnipiac started surveying New York City residents in 1996.

It’s unlikely Adams touting the possibility of another 9/11 alongside the creation of new businesses as reasons New York is great will help his standing among the city’s voters.
