‘Fast & Furious 11’ Finds a Director, and It’s Surprisingly Not Vin Diesel

You need an element of egomania to headline one of the most successful franchises in the history of cinema, which had led many to believe that Vin Diesel would install himself as the director of Fast & Furious 11, rounding out the saga after a quarter of a century by helming his biggest project to date.

Let’s not forget that the chrome-domed titan was roundly blamed for Dwayne Johnson’s decision to abandon the series in favor of a spinoff, while he was named as the number one culprit behind Justin Lin’s exist on the penultimate 10th chapter. In addition, he claimed that no less of an authority than Steven Spielberg had been urging him to use his directorial talents more often, while he compared Fast & Furious to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings with a completely straight face.

Sometimes, though, the most obvious choice is staring everyone right in the face. That’s been proven yet again by Variety, after the outlet revealed that Fast X architect Louis Leterrier will be returning to bring the high-octane action extravaganza to a close, with all focus now pointing to what sort of ridiculous title it’s going to end up getting.

As much as everyone wanted this year’s upcoming epic to be dubbed Fast 10 Your Seatbelts, it didn’t end up happening, so we can surely rule out something inherently silly being chosen instead. All good things must come to an end, and after staring all the way back in 2001 with a street-racing thriller ripped off from Point Break that focused on stealing DVD players, we’re nothing if not curious to see how The Fast Saga bows out.
