First Galaxy S23 & S23+ Images Show A Minor Redesign
Samsung‘s Galaxy S23 series may get a redesign, after all, even if a minor one. Noted leaker Steve H. McFly, better known as OnLeaks, has shared the first-look renders of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ and we immediately noticed a change to the rear camera array. Both phones feature three cameras at the back and they individually protrude out of the rear panel. There’s no camera island like on the Galaxy S22 or Galaxy S22+. All this while, we have heard that the next-gen Samsung flagships will look the same as current models. So this design change was unexpected but we aren’t complaining.
This isn’t a new design language, of course. Samsung has been using it for a few years now, more on budget and mid-range phones. But this year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra also features a similar rear camera array. The company is now seemingly bringing it over to the vanilla and Plus models next year for design consistency across the lineup. But this would also mean the Galaxy S23 Ultra will look identical to the current Ultra.
Despite a camera redesign, we aren’t expecting major camera hardware upgrades on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+. Rumors are pointing at the same sensors as the current models but possibly with improved software algorithms and optimization. So we may still get substantial improvement to the image quality. After all, the camera hardware is only a part of image quality on smartphones.
However, on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, Samsung appears all set to include a 200MP primary rear camera. The company is reportedly working on a third-gen 200MP solution dubbed ISOCELL HP2. Its first-gen ISOCELL HP1 camera debuted on Motorola’s Edge 30 Ultra earlier this month while the second-gen ISOCELL HP3 has yet to make its way into phones.
More Galaxy S23 upgrades are coming to fore
Early reports had suggested that the Galaxy S23 series will not bring many upgrades or changes over the Galaxy S22. But as time passes, more upgrades are coming to the fore. A closer look at the leaked renders reveals two microphone holes at the bottom, one each on either side of the USB Type-C port. This is in addition to another one on the top edge. Samsung might be looking to offer improved audio quality on its flagships.
Other rumored Galaxy S23 upgrades include a newer SoC, improved display on the Ultra model, bigger batteries, faster fingerprint scanner, and more importantly, improved software experience.
