Fortuner-based Toyota Kirloskar Motors Hilux luxury pick up truck: Bookings reopened

The Japanese automotive giant Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched its lifestyle pickup SUV Hilux back in March of 2022. Prior to its official launch, the company opened bookings for the vehicle for a sum of Rs 1 lakh at dealerships or Rs 50,000 via the official website. However, after getting an overwhelming response the company halted the bookings. Now finally after almost a year, the company has once again resumed bookings for this highly sought-after luxury pickup truck in the country.

Commenting on the announcement, Atul Sood, Vice President of Sales and Strategic Marketing – Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “It gives us immense pleasure to announce that we have begun the bookings for Hilux – an iconic vehicle which has been accepted by generations world over. Our desire is to excite our customers with lifetime experiences to fulfil their aspiring needs by providing greater mobility choices. We are confident that the globally celebrated Hilux will continue to set new standards of unmatched toughness & awesomeness in India market to suit varied lifestyle utility requirements be it personal or business.”

Toyota offers the Hilux in three variants – the 4×4 MT Standard which starts at Rs 33.9 lakh then there is the
4×4 MT High which is priced at Rs 35.8 lakh and lastly there is the 4×4 AT High which costs Rs 33.68 lakh. It is to be noted all of these prices are ex-showroom. For those unaware the Hilux is luxury pickup vehcile aimed at niche clientele in India. It is also a capable offroader and internationally it is a highly acclaimed offering from Toyota. Since its launch it has garnered a good amount of interest in the country and poeple across India have also modified them to enhance their off-roading capabilites.

From factory the Hilux comes equipped with automatic headlamps, integrated LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, a Chrome bar on the rear bumper, a chrome beltline, 18-inch alloy wheels, power foldable ORVMs and more. Meanwhile on the inside, the Hilux pick-up truck offers leather seats, an 8-way adjustable powered driver seat, a dual-zone climate control system, second-row AC vents, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, TFT multi-function display, UV cut glass and more. Electrochromatic mirrors, and much more.

As for the drivetrain side of things the Hilux is only offered with a single 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 204 PS and peak torque of 420 Nm with the manual transmission and 500 Nm with the automatic transmission. This is the same engine option that also powers the Toyota Fortuner.

The Fortuner and the Hilux share the same platform however the Hilux comes standard with 4X4. A high-range and low-range transfer case are also included. Along with other features like downhill assist control, Toyota also includes the A-TRAC traction control system with the pickup truck.

In terms of safety measures, the Hilux comes standard with seven airbags. There is also switchable traction control and vehicle stability control. The truck has two drive modes that alter the steering settings as well. The Hilux has a Limited Slip Differential and can wade through water 700mm deep. For serious off-roading, there is a rear diff lock and an electronic diff lock.
