“My heartfelt thanks to the Prime Minister, President and the wonderful people of India for this tremendous distinction,” Liu said in a statement. “I firmly believe this is an affirmation of a collaboration that benefits India’s long-term development and supports the growth of local economies. I will continue to inspire my team. Let’s do our part for manufacturing in India and for the betterment of society.”

Foxconn is the world’s largest electronics manufacturer which has been significantly ramping up its presence in India through big-ticket investments across sectors. Most recently, the company announced a joint venture with Indian tech giant HCL to set up an OSAT facility, an assembly and testing unit for semiconductors.

This follows its initial foray into the chip space with Vedanta having fallen through. Further, Apple, which is one of Foxconn’s largest clients has been increasingly looking to diversify out of China and has been expanding its footprint in India.
