The Mahindra Thar 5-door has been on test for a long time now, and sources confirm that the new five-door version of the Thar will be hitting the showroom floors ahead of the festive season. With time, the features and design elements of the 5-door Thar are revealed through the test mules of the SUV which are undergoing trial runs in fully camouflaged forms. Now, in the most recent sighting of the Mahindra Thar five-door, more features are revealed, which are confirmed to be available in the production version of the SUV.

The new Mahindra Thar 5-door, which is touted to be called Mahindra Thar Armada, will be getting a host of additional features over the three-door Thar. Starting from the front profile, the Thar 5-door will be getting all-LED headlamps and LED fog lamps, along with a slightly restyled front grille and front parking sensors placed on the front bumper.

The side profile will also get flared wheel arches and rear door handles integrated into the C-pillar. However, the big addition to the side profile is the inclusion of 19-inch machined alloy wheels, which are expected to be offered in the higher-spec variants of the SUV. The rear profile seems to have remained unchanged, with the 19-inch spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and rectangular LED tail lamps on the sides, along with additional LED tail lamps on the sides of the rear bumper.

The cabin of the Mahindra Thar five-door will have a slightly different-looking black and beige leather upholstery, which looks more premium than the all-black theme of the three-door Thar. The cabin has been spruced up with more changes like a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a new three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, which have been borrowed from the recently-updated Mahindra XUV400.

Mahindra is expanding the Thar family with a new 5-door variant, sharing its platform with the 3-door model. The extended wheelbase of the Thar 5-door accommodates additional rear door panels. To set it apart from the current Thar, Mahindra is likely to make some exterior design adjustments, including a distinct front grille, bumpers, alloy wheels, and projector headlamps.

Upon closer inspection of the Mahindra Thar 5-door, the cabin layout closely resembles the existing three-door Thar. However, notable enhancements have been made to provide a more modern and comfortable interior, addressing some of the limitations of the three-door model. The five-door Thar boasts an upgraded cabin featuring a larger touchscreen infotainment system, rear AC vents, a push start-stop button, and automatic climate control. Additionally, it sports a different multi-functional steering wheel borrowed from the XUV700, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Compared to the Thar three-door, the new Mahindra Thar five-door will have more features like an electric sunroof, a new full-TFT instrument console, engine push start-stop button, electrically-adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors, front and rear centre armrests and driver seat height adjustment.

As reported earlier, the Thar five-door is expected to share its engine options – a 2.0-litre 203 PS turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre 175 PS diesel engine – with the Scorpio-N, with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options. And like the Thar three-door, this new SUV will also be offered with both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options.
