The internet is excited for the next installment of Defunctland after Disney announced that its newest (and most expensive) attraction will close sometime in 2023.

Disney announced that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a two-day hotel experience in Disney World, will be shutting down this September. This interactive Star Wars experience starts at around $5000 for two adults and it was reported that the hotel rooms have no windows. It’s no secret that an attraction like this would flop due to the really high price tag for two nights at Disney World, whilst also having an interactive experience in the Star Wars universe.

According to Deadline, a company spokesperson released a statement to company employees about the soon-to-be-closed attraction and how the Galactic Starcruiser set the bar for immersion and immersive entertainment.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment. This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

Kevin Perjuer, the host of the Defunctland YouTube series, surely has a lot to work with for a future episode. For those who don’t know what this web series is, it documents discontinued amusement parks and attractions. As of writing, his most viewed video was a discussion of Disney’s FastPass system and its battle when it came to wait times.

So imagine, an attraction/hotel made by one of the world’s best theme parks, has a really high cost of entry but is based on a popular IP, was opened only in 2022, only to be closed just a year later? If that doesn’t scream a Defunctland documentary, I don’t know what will. Some people claimed that this upcoming documentary could possibly surpass the aforementioned FastPass documentary due to people being curious to see how this channel is going to report on a short-lived Disney attraction.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a Star Wars attraction where hotel guests could take part in an interactive Star Wars story for two nights. Guests were encouraged to cosplay in their favorite Star Wars regalia and immerse themselves in a story that’s said to have filled the gaps between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

If you want to take part in this Star Wars experience before it closes, guests have until September to book before the attraction closes for good.
