Galaxy A12 Is Getting Android 12 Update In The US

0 50

Samsung‘s Galaxy A12 budget smartphone is receiving the Android 12 update in the US. Launched towards the end of 2020, it was the best-selling smartphone globally last year. The device started picking up Android 12 with One UI Core 4.1 in international markets a few weeks back. The update is now available in the US too. Units on Sprint and T-Mobile networks are getting the update first but it should soon reach other carrier networks too. The new, Android 12 firmware version for the phone is A125USQU3CVG4.

This update brings a lot of new features, changes, and improvements to the Galaxy A12. You get display indicators when an app uses your phone’s microphone or camera, adding a layer of privacy. The UI has been subtly redesigned for a more smooth and fresh navigation experience. The built-in camera app also now begins recording videos immediately after touching the record button.

Additionally, stock apps like Calendar, Samsung Internet, Samsung keyboard, My Files, Gallery, and Calculator are getting performance and UI improvements. Last but not least, homescreen widgets, Dark Mode, on-screen volume controls, Device Care, and a bunch of other features are also getting improvements.

The July security patch is also part of this package. This is surprising because the Galaxy A12 has already received the August  SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in some regions. Perhaps Samsung has been testing this software package since July. It should release the August or September SMR for the phone in the US soon.

Galaxy A12 may not get Android 13

As said earlier, the Galaxy A12 was the world’s most sold smartphone last year. The device sold over 51 million units in 2021, more than any other model. Unfortunately, those people may not get the taste of Android 13 on this phone. The handset debuted with Android 10 and has already picked up updates to Android 11 and Android 12. Samsung only promises two major Android OS updates for its budget smartphones. So it is likely done getting feature updates. We still expect it to receive security updates at least until the end of 2024, though.

In the meantime, if you’re using the Galaxy A12 in the US, Android 12 should be available to you anytime now. You’ll be notified once the update package becomes available for your unit. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Since it is a major Android OS update, the OTA package will be quite big. You might want to connect the phone to a Wi-Fi network before downloading it.
