Galaxy A12 Starts Getting The August Security Update

0 56

Samsung has begun rolling out the August 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy A12. The budget phone is currently receiving the new security update in Russia with firmware version A127FXXS6BVH4. It should pick up the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in more regions in the coming days, including in the US.

Samsung has already confirmed that the August SMR patches more than 60 vulnerabilities. These include a critical Android OS flaw that paved way for attackers to remotely execute code on a victim’s device over Bluetooth. Google also fixed about 30 other less-severe issues with Android OS.

On top of those, Samsung patched almost as many issues specific to its devices. Many of them were labeled critical by the Korean giant. The flaws don’t affect the Android products from other brands. The issues are with software and components on its Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The affected components include Samsung DeX, Knox VPN, App Lock, NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Dialer, Launcher, Smart View, and more.

The Galaxy A12 is getting the August SMR just over a week after it started picking up the Android 12 update, with Samsung’s One UI Core 4.1. It introduced tons of new features and improvements to the budget handset. Debuted with Android 10 in late 2020, it is the second major Android OS update for the phone. It is unlikely to receive any more of them.

Galaxy A12 was the best-selling smartphone of 2021

Samsung has long been the world’s biggest smartphone vendor. The Korean firm launches dozens of devices across various price points every year, starting at just about $100 and going all the way up to over $2,000 (the 1TB Galaxy Z Fold 4 debuted recently with a price tag of $2,159). But it’s the low-cost models that usually sell more than flagships. In 2021, the Galaxy A12 sold more than any other smartphone around the world, with the sales figure topping 50 million units.

If you’re one of those people and are still using the phone, you should be getting a new security update soon. As said earlier, the Galaxy A12 also recently picked up the Android 12 update. But it isn’t widely available yet. So those awaiting the big Android update may get it bundled with the August SMR. Either way, it’ll roll out to you over the air (OTA). Watch out for notifications about it in the coming days. You can also go to the Software update menu in the Settings app to check for updates manually.
