Galaxy A22 5G December 2023 security update now available

0 41

The Galaxy A22 and the Galaxy A22 5G are not eligible for Android 14 and One UI 6.0, but Samsung continues to support the devices with security updates. This week, the Galaxy A22 is receiving an update that is bundled with the December 2023 security patch. It’s not the absolute latest security patch, but that’s okay as 2024 has barely begun and we’re not expecting Samsung to release the January security patch so quickly, at least for budget smartphones.

The new update comes with firmware version A225FXXS8DWL1 for the LTE model and A226BXXS9DWL1 for the 5G model. It seems to be rolling out in the Indian subcontinent at this time, and since these are budget phones, it may take some time for Samsung to bring the update to more countries around the globe.

The December 2023 security patch fixes 75 security vulnerabilities, seven of which fall in the critical category, in Android and Samsung One UI. It also fixes vulnerabilities in smartphones powered by select Exynos chips, but Galaxy A22 owners can ignore that part as both the LTE and 5G models use a MediaTek chip. No other changes are included in the update.

You can download the latest update over the air by opening the Settings app on your phone, scrolling down and selecting Software update, and tapping Download and install. Alternatively, you can upgrade your phone using the full-sized firmware that you can download from our archive, though this method requires a Windows PC and a USB cable.

As we noted at the beginning of the article, the Galaxy A22 will not be getting Android 14 and One UI 6.0. Android 13 and One UI 5.1 were the final feature updates for both the LTE and 5G Galaxy A22 models. They are only eligible for security updates going forward, and even those will be limited in number as both models are on a biannual security update schedule.
