Galaxy A73 5G gets October update ahead of Android 13

0 30

Samsung is pushing new software updates for its Galaxy smartphones left, right, and center. Some are getting the Android 13 update, while others are picking up the latest, November security patch. The Galaxy A73 5G is getting into the mix today. Unfortunately, the premium mid-ranger is only receiving the October security update.

The Galaxy A73 5G is quite late to the October SMR (Security Maintenance Release) party. Samsung has been rolling out this update since early last month and has released this month’s SMR. That said, the phone isn’t a top priority for the company when it comes to software updates. Launched alongside the Galaxy A53 5G earlier this year, the Galaxy A73 5G is only scheduled to get quarter security updates. Despite being a less costly model, the former gets those updates every month, and mostly on time.

Nonetheless, if you’re using the Galaxy A73 5G, the October SMR is headed your way. As of this writing, the update is live in a few countries in Latin America. The new firmware version for the phone in the region is A736BXXS2AVJ3 (via). Since the device doesn’t get security updates every month, we can’t tell if the October SMR will be available to it globally. But it should get a new update everywhere soon. That’s the Android 13 update, which has already rolled out to the Galaxy A53 5G.

Both of these premium mid-range smartphones from Samsung are eligible for four generations of Android OS updates. Debuted with Android 12, this is the first of those. They will get updates until Android 16, which will arrive in late 2025 or early 2026. The Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G will also get security updates for five years, i. e. until sometime in 2027. Kudos to Samsung for offering such extended software support to non-flagship models as well. It would be nice if other Android OEMs follow the Korean behemoth.

The Galaxy A73 5G gets the October update with about 50 vulnerability fixes

The October SMR for Samsung’s Android-powered smartphones and tablets patches about 50 vulnerabilities. These include Android OS bugs as well as some Galaxy-specific issues. A handful of those flaws were labeled to be critical issues. The Galaxy A73 5G is the latest Galaxy device to get these vulnerability fixes. Users in Latin America can look forward to receiving this update in the coming days if they haven’t already. Stay tuned as Samsung prepares to push Android 13 to the Galaxy A73 5G.
