The Galaxy A90 5G hasn’t received One UI 5.0, and it never will. Nevertheless, the upper mid-range phone in question is getting a new firmware update as we speak. Samsung began the December 2022 security patch rollout earlier today, and the Galaxy A90 5G is among the first devices to receive it.

Rather unusually, the first regions in which the Galaxy A90 5G is getting the December 2022 security patch are Australia and New Zealand. The update has firmware version A908BXXS5EVK4.

Samsung detailed the December 2022 security patch earlier today, and the new update addresses almost 100 vulnerabilities, 67 of which affect the Android OS itself, which means they’re not limited to Samsung’s smartphones. You can read more about these addressed vulnerabilities here.

The Galaxy A90 5G is not the only device to have received the December 2022 security patch as of this writing. Samsung also made the update available for the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The Galaxy A90 5G is over three years old and no longer receives major Android OS upgrades. However, it will continue getting security patches for a while longer — roughly two more years. We suspect that the December 2022 patch will reach the Galaxy A90 5G in more markets relatively soon.

As always, you can check for new updates by opening the Settings app on your phone, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” Or you can download the official firmware files for your region from our website and install the update manually using a PC.
