Galaxy Note 20 gets new update with January security patch
The last two Galaxy Note smartphones, the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, have received a new update this week. Over in the US, unlocked Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra models are getting the latest security patch through that update.
The update comes with firmware version N981U1UES6HWL5 and N986U1UES6HWL5 for the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra respectively. Carrier variants of the two handsets aren’t receiving this update yet, and it remains to be seen how quickly that will change.
The latest Note 20 update brings nothing but security fixes. That’s to be expected, as the Galaxy Note 20 duo received their final feature update last year with One UI 5.1 and has only been eligible for security updates since then. These security updates come monthly and will continue to do so for most of 2024.
If you have an unlocked Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra, you can now check for the new update on your phone. To do that, navigate to Settings » Software update and tap Download and install. There is also the option to download the new firmware file from our archives and flash it manually, though this will require a Windows PC and a USB cable.
