Galaxy S20, Galaxy A52 & Galaxy A22 5G get April update

0 45

Samsung has released the April security patch for the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy A22 5G. The latter is getting the latest security update along with One UI Core 5.1. The former two have already picked up the new One UI version with previous updates.

The April SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S20 series is currently available in a host of countries in Latin America. The update is rolling out to the 4G versions of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra with the firmware build number G98*FXXSGHWCF. Samsung should soon expand the rollout to more markets, including the US. Note that only 5G versions of the Galaxy S20 trio were sold stateside, though the two versions don’t differ in any other terms apart from cellular connectivity.

The Galaxy A52 is also initially picking up the April SMR in Latin American countries. The update comes with the firmware version A525MUBS5DWC1 and is once again limited to the 4G model (via). A wider release covering both 4G and 5G models globally should follow soon. Like the Galaxy S20 series, Samsung only sold the 5G version of the Galaxy A52 in the US. The two cellular versions packed slightly different specs, with the 5G model getting a better display and a more powerful CPU and GPU.

Galaxy A22 5G gets new features with the April update

While the Galaxy S20 series and Galaxy A52 are only getting this month’s vulnerability fixes with the latest update, the story is a little different for the Galaxy A22 5G. The 2021 mid-range smartphone is also picking up One UI Core 5.1. It is the latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android software. The company has already pushed One UI 5.1 to dozens of other devices, with some low-cost ones getting the “Core” version. The Galaxy A22 5G is now joining them.

This mid-range phone is receiving the big update widely in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. However, the April SMR is bundled only in the former two markets. Users in the latter market are getting One UI Core 5.1 with the March security patch. The new firmware build number for users in Europe and Asia is A226BXXU5DWC1, while that for Latin America is A226BRUBU5DWC2. As of this writing, this update isn’t available for the LTE version of the Galaxy A22 anywhere. Samsung will likely push the big update to it in the next few days.
