Galaxy S20 series gets December 2023 update outside the US

0 63

The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra didn’t make it into the eligibility list for the Android 14/One UI 6 update, but they continue to receive regular security updates.

Earlier this week, carrier-locked Galaxy S20 units got the final security update of 2023 in the US, and that update is now available for unlocked units. The December 2023 update for the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra is also rolling out in dozens of other countries around the world.

The update can be recognized by a firmware version ending with the letters HWKD and the changelog only includes security fixes. The December patch plugs a total of 75 security holes found in Android and Samsung One UI; also included are fixes for vulnerabilities discovered in select Exynos chips, though the Galaxy S20 lineup’s Exynos 990 is not affected.

To check for the update, navigate to Settings » Software update on your Galaxy S20, S20+, or S20 Ultra and tap Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually.

As mentioned above, the Galaxy S20 lineup is not eligible for Android 14 and One UI 6. It will stay on Android 13 and One UI 5.1 for the rest of its support period and is unlikely to get updates with new features or any other major changes.
