Galaxy S22 June Update Brings Camera Improvements

0 63

Samsung last week released the June 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S22 series. The rollout began in Europe and Asia with a pretty big OTA (over the air) package weighing about 1.7GB. We suspected it to contain more than just the latest security fixes but the changelog didn’t mention anything apart from stability improvements. Thankfully, a moderator on the company’s South Korean community forums has confirmed that the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra are gaining various camera improvements with this update.

The Galaxy S22 trio will capture photos with more natural sharpness and improved contrast following the latest release. The new software package also fixes an issue with the Single Take function where it stopped capturing after one shot. Pet photography is getting some improvements too. The improved AWB (automatic white balance) algorithm will allow for more natural colors while taking pictures of pets.

According to the forum post, this update also brings other optimizations for improved camera performance. These include improved portrait mode performance and memory optimizations for video recording. Hopefully, the new software package is bug-free. These kinds of big updates tend to introduce some bugs too.

The latest update for the Galaxy S22 trio contains more goodies

The June update for the Galaxy S22 trio is rolling out with firmware version S90*NKSU1AVF1 in South Korea. The changelog also mentions the addition of a “Disallow all” option for APK sideloading. The new option lets you completely block the installation of apps from unknown sources. This feature has also rolled out to a few other Galaxy devices in recent weeks, including the Galaxy Note 20 series, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

In addition to all this, the June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) contains fixes for more than 70 vulnerabilities. These include a few critical ones too. If you’re using the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, or Galaxy S22 Ultra in Europe, Asia, or South Korea, these fixes as well as the aforementioned new features should reach your phone soon if they haven’t already.

Galaxy S22 users in other markets, including the US, should also soo receive the June update. Watch out for a notification in the coming days. You can also navigate to SettingsSoftware update on your phone and tap on Download and install to manually check for updates. As said earlier, the OTA package weighs about 1.7GB. So you might want to connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network before downloading the update to avoid incurring unwanted cellular data charges.
