Galaxy S23 Ultra design isn’t a copy of Galaxy S22 Ultra

0 26

Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra may be identical to the Galaxy S22 Ultra from last year, but it certainly isn’t a copy-paste from the company’s design team. They did change a few things. Leaks have previously shown that edges are now fatter (less rounded) than before. We have also heard that the camera circles are bigger. The latter rumor has just been confirmed in a side-by-side comparison of the current and upcoming Ultra. It also revealed a slightly lower positioning of the power and volume buttons.

Popular Samsung leaker Ice Universe recently posted a comparison of the protective cases for the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra. As you can see in the attached image below, the camera cutouts for the former (on the right side) are bigger than those on the latter (left). This is only true for the 200MP primary shooter, 12MP ultrawide lens, and the 10MP periscope telephoto camera with 10X optical zoom, which are aligned vertically closer to the edge. The cutouts for the 10MP telephoto zoom camera (3X), laser sensors, and LED flash unit are of the same size.

Galaxy S23 Ultra camera design change

The inclusion of a 200MP camera may have resulted in bigger external camera circles on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Since the main shooter sits in the middle of the left camera column, Samsung may have increased the cutout sizes for the other two sensors for the sake of uniformity. Otherwise, the phone is the same ultrawide and zoom cameras as its predecessor, at least in terms of resolution. As a reminder, the laser sensor now gets black paint over it. It appears red on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It’s unclear if there is any functional change on the horizon, though.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra has its physical buttons slightly low

Another subtle physical change that Samsung has made on the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the positioning of the power and volume buttons. These keys, which are always on the right side, sit slightly lower on the new phone. Since the handset is quite big, this should make the buttons more reachable. Particularly for people with smaller hands.

These may not be big design changes but seems to be thoughtful one from Samsung. The company could be refining this bump-less camera layout to develop it as an identity for Galaxy devices. Even entry-level models such as the newly-launched Galaxy A14 5G feature the same rear design. And it isn’t a bad thing. Stay tuned for more about the Galaxy S23 series as Samsung prepares for the launch event on February 1.
