He went to Twitter to say that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will use an unreleased ISOCELL HP2 sensor, which is a 200MP camera sensor. He added that he’s “almost 100% sure” of this information.

In the comments, he also reassured people that the ISOCELL HP2 will be better than both the HP1 and HP3 camera sensors. We don’t know the details just yet, but that’s a lot of megapixels for Samsung to utilize.

There really is no logic in the ISOCELL HP2 being better than the HP1 and HP3, as there doesn’t seem to be any logic in the naming here. There you have it, though.

Samsung has been using 108MP cameras for several smartphone generations

Samsung is no stranger to using camera sensors with plenty of megapixels. The company used 108MP cameras for three generations of its Galaxy S Ultra series flagships. The Galaxy S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, and S22 Ultra all include 108MP main cameras.

The company seems to be looking to boost the camera performance next year, though. Well, that’s expected, at least. The ISOCELL HP2 will have to be quite an impressive camera sensor in order to achieve that, though.

We’re expecting it to be larger than the HP1, so larger than 1/1.22-inches, and to improve things in other areas as well. The competition certainly did improve their camera performance, and Samsung will need to keep up.

We’re not sure when will the ISOCELL HP2 launch, but if Samsung aims to use it in the Galaxy S23 Ultra in Q1 2023, chances are we’ll see it launched in the coming months. We may even see some info leak out before the event takes place, to give us a general idea as to what to expect.
