Galaxy S24 AI features coming to Galaxy S23, Fold 5, and Flip 5 in Q1 2024

0 22

With One UI 6.0 out for most eligible Galaxy phones and tablets, One UI 6.1 is the update that is going to keep us drooling over the next few weeks. One UI 6.1 will come with the Galaxy S24 series that’s set to go official on January 17 (or January 18, depending on your time zone), and it will be more interesting than these minor One UI updates usually are.

That’s thanks to Galaxy AI, Samsung’s next big thing, so to speak. The Galaxy S24 will bring numerous AI-powered features that could give even Google a run for its money. From something as important as live translations over calls to fancier stuff like removing and moving objects from and even expanding your photos with details that don’t exist in the original photo, there’s a lot to get excited about.

However, we have been wondering if all of those AI features will make their way to existing Galaxy devices with the One UI 6.1 update, as the latest Snapdragon and Exynos processors and their superior machine learning and AI processing capabilities may be necessary for some AI features to work well. And it appears our fears may not have been unfounded, based on information we have received from our sources.

While we don’t have any concrete details, we’re told Samsung will only port some AI features to existing devices. Furthermore, right now Samsung is only working on bringing those features to the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5. That’s not to say other devices won’t get those features, but it would be best to be skeptical considering how One UI 6.1 isn’t your run-of-the-mill One UI update.

We’re also told Samsung is targeting a release in the first quarter of 2024, though that’s a pretty generic time frame and One UI 6.1 may or may not take longer to arrive compared to previous versions. We’ll let you know as we learn more over the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
