Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ get larger displays without a larger body

0 14

The Galaxy S24 display has received an upgrade by growing in size compared to last year’s Galaxy S23. That’s not an uncommon thing to happen in the world of smartphones. Especially ones that come from a long line of devices that have been a fan favorite for more than a decade. Usually, though, you’d think the phone’s actual physical size would have to grow as well. To make room for the additional screen real estate. That isn’t the case here with Samsung’s latest and greatest.

The Galaxy S24 series was officially announced at Galaxy Unpacked on the morning of January 17. Finally, fans of the device family were able to learn official details about what Samsung’s newest devices, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, would offer. As one would have it that includes a screen size increase. Samsung was keen to highlight that the Galaxy S24 now comes with a 6.2-inch display. This is compared to the 6.1-inch display on the Galaxy S23. Of course, this isn’t a huge difference. And there’s a good chance that many consumers who have the Galaxy S23 and opt for the upgrade won’t notice the larger display.

But it is there. The Galaxy S24 isn’t alone in this regard either. The Galaxy S24+ also has a larger display compared to its 2023 counterpart. Last year’s phone came with a 6.6-inch display whereas the Galaxy S24+ comes with a 6.7-inch display. Again, not a huge increase in size. But Samsung does make an improvement in another area with this model. The screen resolution. It’s now been bumped up to QHD+. And for those who care about visual clarity, this will be a big step up.

The Galaxy S24 display size is larger without enlarging the phone’s body

Perhaps the more impressive thing here is increasing the size of the display without increasing the size of the phone. How was Samsung able to make this happen? It’s pretty simple really. Samsung gave the phone slimmer bezels.

With slimmer bezels, it has a more visible screen real estate the user can interact with. Thus the screen ends up being larger. Because when companies refer to the screen size, they’re referring to the size of the interactive area. Worth noting is that Samsung’s Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S24 don’t have completely identical dimensions. The Galaxy S23 for example, measures 5.76 x 2.79 x 0.30 inches. Whereas the Galaxy S24 measures 5.79 x 2.78 x 0.30 inches. The numbers are different, but only very, very slightly.

The Galaxy S24+ is much in the same boat. Measuring 6.24 x 3.00 x 0.30 inches compared to 6.21 x 3.00 x 0.30 inches on last year’s phone. These might seem like minor differences and improvements, but they’re impressive achievements nonetheless. You can pre-order the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra starting today.
