Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra to get LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 4.0 storage
After launching its first-ever Ultra-branded flagship Android tablet last year, Samsung is gearing up to introduce the second-gen model later this year. The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will arrive alongside the Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy Tab S9+ sometime in August or September 2023. While that’s still months away, leaks about the device have already started pouring in. The latest word in the rumor mill is that the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will boast up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
According to tipster @Tech_Reve on Twitter, Samsung will offer the new Ultra tablet in three memory configurations. It will be available in 8GB+128GB, 12GB+256GB, and 16GB+512GB variants. All of them use LPDDR5X RAM, which is the industry’s fastest RAM solution for mobile devices. On top of that, the 256GB and 512GB variants will get UFS 4.0 storage solution as well. It’s the latest and fastest storage chip for smartphones and tablets. Samsung also equipped its Galaxy S23 series flagship smartphones with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
Unfortunately, UFS 4.0 chips are only available in 256GB or higher storage capacity. Samsung hasn’t started manufacturing 128GB UFS 4.0 solutions yet. This means the 128GB Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will be stranded with the previous-gen UFS 3.1 storage chips. That is the case with the 128GB Galaxy S23 as well. For most use cases, the two storage solutions will give you comparable performance. But you might notice some differences while transferring big files. Theoretically, UFS 4.0 delivers twice as fast data transfer rates as UFS 3.1.

Other rumored Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra specs include a 14.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, WQXGA+ resolution (2,960 x 1,848 pixels), 120 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, and S Pen support. An 11,200mAh battery will reportedly fuel this tablet, which supports 45W fast charging.
