Galaxy Z Flip 5 may get Samsung DeX support

0 29

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is shaping up to be a massive upgrade over the Flip 4. Along with a new hinge and a lot bigger cover display, the new clamshell foldable may also get DeX support. If the latest rumor turns out to be true, it will be the smallest Galaxy device ever to run Samsung DeX.

Samsung‘s Flip series clamshell foldables have never been true-blue flagships. The devices do come equipped with the latest flagship processor, industry-leading display, and many other high-end specs. But they lack big time in several areas. Cameras aren’t as good as the ones you get on the Galaxy S series flagships. On the software side of things, they lacked Samsung DeX, one of the best features of flagship Galaxy devices.

However, sources have told SamMobile that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will finally address the software limitation. This year’s Flip model will support Samsung DeX. With better cameras, the device may finally be counted in the same bracket as other Galaxy flagships. The Fold lineup of book-like foldables already supports DeX. The software tool isn’t also available for Galaxy A series mid-range devices, though.

For the uninitiated, Samsung DeX is a built-in tool that lets you use your Galaxy device as your computer CPU. You can connect it to an external display, like a smart TV or monitor, for a desktop-like interface. Depending on the device model and the display, you can connect wirelessly or use an HDMI adaptor/USB-C port. You can also connect mice and keyboards to this Galaxy-powered computer.

Samsung also offers a DeX app for Windows and Mac. If you have a compatible device, all you need is a USB-C cable to get started. Moreover, on supported Galaxy tablets, you don’t even need an external screen. You can enable a desktop-like interface on the device itself. That’s not possible on phones due to small screens.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup is finally getting DeX support

It’s unclear what kept Samsung from offering DeX support on the Flip lineup. The devices certainly are capable of running a desktop setup on an external screen. But after omitting the feature for several years, the company is finally adding it to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It remains to be seen if older Flip models also get the feature with a software update once the latest Flip arrives on the market. We will let you know when we have more information. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to go official in late July alongside the Galaxu Z Fold 5.
