Samsung‘s fifth-gen foldables may see a price increase. According to the information that has reached Dealslabs, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will cost marginally high than their respective predecessors in Europe. Or, more specifically, in France.

The publication has cited a launch price of €1,899 for the base Galaxy Z Fold 5 (256GB). The 512GB and 1TB storage variants of the phone are said to cost €2,039 and €2,279, respectively. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will set you back by €1,199 if you grab the 256GB variant. It will cost you €1,339 to double the storage to 512GB. There’s no mention of a 128GB Flip model, though we are expecting one.

If these leaked prices are accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will cost €100 more than its predecessor. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 started at €1,799. The Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, may see a price bump between €40-€60 depending on the storage variant. The 256GB Galaxy Z Flip 4 debuted with a price tag of €1,159, while the 512GB variant cost €1,279 at launch. The base model (128GB) was priced at €1,099.

It’s a relatively minor price increase from last year, within the realms of inflation and the corresponding rise in component and manufacturing costs. Moreover, the prices reported are specifically for France. Depending on local taxes, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 could cost slightly less or more in other European countries.

That said, we aren’t vouching for the authenticity of this leak. The publication may have obtained the pricing details from third-party retailers, which aren’t always accurate with the prices of unreleased products. They list devices with higher price tags before launch and correct the listings when sales begin. The Galaxy Tab S9 series is also rumored to cost more than its predecessor in Europe. We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out.

Samsung may no longer push to make foldables cheaper

A minor price increase for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 won’t be surprising, though. Not because manufacturing costs may have gone up but because of how Samsung’s foldable rivals have been playing the game. While the Korean firm has pushed to make foldables cheaper over the past few years, others haven’t supported the drive.

Huawei recently launched the Mate X3 foldable in Europe with a price tag of a whopping €2,200. The Google Pixel Fold (€1,899) also costs more than the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in the region. Samsung may now join the trend and no longer try to lower the prices of its foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 launch on July 26, so it won’t be long before we have their official pricing details.
