‘Girls5Eva’ Reuniting for Third Season on Netflix

0 16

Despite being canceled by Peacock, the comedy series Girls5eva will return for a third season… this time on Netflix.

The show — created by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Meredith Scardino and produced by Tina Fey — follows a 90s girl group in the midst of the comeback trail, with Sara Bareilles, Busy Phillips, Paula Pell, and Renee Elise Goldsberry starring as the now-quartet.

The first two seasons of Girls5eva premiered on Peacock, which canceled the series in October 2022. Netflix then swooped in to save the acclaimed show, with the six-episode third season debuting on the streaming service on March 14; Netflix also acquired the rights to the first two seasons, which will also arrive that same day.

“The members of the late ‘90s girl group Girls5eva – Dawn, Wickie, Summer, and Gloria – have reunited and recorded a new album, Returnity, so it’s time for the next logical step: a comeback tour,” Netflix said in its Season 3 synopsis.

“With no plan, tour manager, or venues secured, the ladies pile into a van and hit the great unknown, doing their damnedest to promote their album and get back on top. In the process, Girls5eva will grapple with life on the road, see their relationships tested, play a billionaire’s birthday party, sow their oats, confront parents they believe held them back, cross paths with the biggest pop star on the planet, and question if they really want ‘the big time’ again.”

Guest stars on the series have so far included Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Bowen Yang, Andrew Rannells, Vanessa Williams, and Tina Fey (playing Dolly Parton).
